Michael Jackson (63) is the world’s leading beer critic, says the Wall Street Journal. He has at once inspired, influenced, and chronicled the global renaissance of boutique and unusual specialty beers, always with a keen understanding of the historical aspects of geography, politics, community, and style that shape their design.
He is known by many beerlovers for his love of Belgian brews. In fact “ The Great Beers of Belgium” is the only book he dedicated to one country. The first edition was published by MMC in 1991, followed by updated versions in 1993, 1997, 2001. Till today more than 100.000 copies were sold, which makes this book a bestseller in its specialised domain. Now the fifth edition is out, maybe Michael’s masterpiece. He visited more than 30 breweries in april this year, and spent more than two months in Belgium afterwards to write this new, fully updated and expanded fifth edition. Several new chapters are added: Bières Brut, the famous new beer style in Belgium, Belgian style beers in the new world, and at the end of the book more than 100 pages with information about where to find Belgian Beer ( cafes and shops) and where to visit and stay ( Bed & Beer) More than 300 beers were newly shooted by photographer Joris Luyten in their right glasses. Android, the graphic design studio, gave the book a total new and contemporary look.
